Tip From the Archives
Center of the Box
Problem
You need to work your drives a little more.
Cure
Think about which clubs are useful to hit off of the teebox for both full distance drives and for laying up. Practice drawing and fading the ball with each of those clubs.
Therapy
Instead of only thinking in terms of working a fade or a draw, you should also consider where you place the tee on the teebox. Most players simply set the tee in the center of the teebox. Put some thought into this positioning. Will you be better able to work the shot to the right or the left if you set the tee on one side of the box? Would you have a better angle if you setup just a little further back and to the left or right? Plus, think about the height of the tee. If you are playing in windy conditions or just want to keep the ball low, tee it a little lower than usual. Play it a little higher if you want more loft. Think of all of these factors before setting up the same way on every hole and you will discover you can work the ball better without having any tricks in your bag.
