Tip From the Archives
Cardio
Problem
You are exhausted every time you play a round of golf.
Cure
Try doing cardiovascular exercises a few times each week to help improve your stamina, muscle strength and power.
Therapy
Simple things like climbing stairs, jogging, or marching in place while watching television for 20 minutes can help improve leg strength and help you play longer without getting tired so easily. If you are a regular couch potato at home, try exercising during the commercials. March in place for a minute to start to get your heart rate up a little and muscles warmed. Then take three sidesteps towards your right as you punch with your right arm out in the direction you are moving. As you are completing your third step, turn your chest towards your right as you punch in that direction with your left arm. Return your body to facing forward and begin taking side steps towards your left with your left arm punching. On your third step, turn and punch with your right arm. Repeat it until the commercial is over then return to marching in place for as long as you feel comfortable doing so. This is great to exercise many of the muscles required for a powerful golf swing as well as preparing your body for long days on the course.
Neck stretches are another vital exercise when toning up for the course. Sit and pull in your navel (belly button to most), raise your chin and slowly and gently turn your head as far right as possible. Then ever so gently with your left hand push and hold for a couple or three breaths.Repeat on the other side (with the opposite hand being used). Sit upright, place your finger tips at the back of your head, elbows extended outwards.Gently push your head down until your chin rests on your chest. Again hold for only two or three breaths in and out. It has improved my turning and ball striking.
Or get Wii Fit. I believe its helped my golf game. I have more stamina. More balanced and more flexible. And ive lost 10 pounds already.
