Bunker Distance Control

Problem

You have a hard time controlling the distance of your bunker shots.

Cure

Remember the importance of a strong follow through. Even though you may be close to the green, you still need to complete your swing so that your hands are well above your belt.

Therapy

You control the distance of your bunker shot by the length of it. So if you want the ball to go far, make sure you have a long follow through. End the swing about head high for an average sand shot. Finish your swing with your hands in front of your chest for a short greenside bunker shot.

Hmm, I will practice this before a round, the practice bunkers always seem empty! 15-30 minutes practice in the sand can shave shots off a round. I no longer fear bunkers, in fact, I jump for joy and my fellow golfers look at me as if I am mad! Why? because 9 times out of 10 I am out in one swing, I just need to control distance.
