Bump and Run
Problem
The green is wet or it is windy and you need to get the ball over the fringe. You are poor at chipping and are a short distance from the green.
Cure
A bump and run will remain low to the ground as it makes it over the apron. It should stay just above the ground about a quarter of the distance, bounce, and then roll the rest of the way to the hole.
Therapy
Use a less lofted club, such as a 7, 8, or 9 iron. Place the ball towards the back part of the center of your stance. Take a narrow and a slightly open stance. Your forward foot should be pointing a little outward and an inch behind the target line. Place most of your weight onto your forward foot and stand so your eyes are over the ball. Your hands should be ahead of the ball as you make one quarter backswing with lots of wrist movement. Allow your hands to initiate the downswing and be sure that you limit your wrist movement at impact. The length of your follow through will determine the distance of the shot.
