Tip From the Archives
Brush the Pocket
Problem
You wonder why you should not carry extra balls or gloves in your pants pockets.
Cure
Something as simple as having a score card in your pants pocket could change your comfort level, arm movements, or hip turn. The bulge of having something bulky could change how far away you set your arms from your body. Empty your pants pockets so the contents in the pockets does not interfere with your swing.
Therapy
You want to maintain your setup posture throughout your swing. If you have extra objects attached to your belt or bulky things in your pockets, you are less likely to swing your arms naturally in front of your body. It can also interfere with the rate that you open your hips and upper body. Ideally, you want to gently brush your front pocket on the trailing side of your body with your trailing elbow. So, empty your pockets and practice swinging so that your trailing elbow brushes against your front pocket as you approach impact.
