Tip From the Archives
Breaking Putt Line
Problem
You want to improve your putting skills or you have a hard time reading the speed of your line or seeing where it breaks.
Cure
Work on developing the feel for both the speed and direction necessary on breaking putts.
Therapy
Place a ball on the green and determine the line to the hole. Now evenly space dozen balls along the line, between your ball and the cup. Putt the closest ball to the hole and then the next one until you work your way back to your original ball. Determine as you do this how much the length of your swing needs to increase to increase distance and how your aim changes a little. Before you make your final putt, determine if your line was correct. Try it again from another location on the green but this time when you read the green, try to visualize where each ball should lay as you determine the break. Next time you have a hard time seeing your line, imagine there are 12 balls on the green to help see your break better.
