Bow Legged Golf Swing

Problem

You are unintentionally decelerating your swing with short irons and wedges.

Cure

You might be relying on your lower body too much or swaying. Widen your stance with a little more knee flex to provide a more stable base for your swing.

Therapy

It might feel dramatic to do so but a quick way to check to see if this is causing your loss of acceleration is to swing with your legs bowed out. Flare both of your feet out in a wider stance and bend your knees a little more than usual. Imagine that you are a cowboy trying to hit into the ball if it helps you gain the setup position. This will help you rely more on your upper body providing the speed during the shot and as a result, you will see a lot more spin on the ball.
