Tip From the Archives

Bounce To the Flag

Problem

You have a firm lie near the green.

Cure

Avoid taking the most lofted club in your bag. This can cause you to hit it short or fat.

Therapy

Try keeping the ball close to the ground with such a firm lie. Bounce and roll the ball to the flag by hitting a bump and run or a Texas turndown.

What is a "Texas turndown"? It appears that Google doesn't even know what it is.

It is hitting the ball near the toe of the club. Several golfers that I have encountered from Texas and Arizona where the fringe/apron is cut really low use that term. I'm not sure if turn down is one or two words for this style of a shot. http://www.golfmedic.net/archive/texas-turn-down/
