Bounce Angle for Wedges
Problem
Unsure if you need a high, mid, or low bounce or how bounce affects your game.
Cure
The slope from the front to the back on the sole of your clubhead compared to the vertical shaft angle is the bounce angle. If you are unsure what bounce to use, try mid bounce wedges for a variety of conditions and skill levels.
Therapy
First try using a mid bounce club and assess how well you are able to make contact and play out of sand bunkers. The mid angle on the wedges are designed to provide the proper amount of bounce to correctly lift the ball for the average player. Most advanced players or people who are used to hitting thin shots use low bounce wedges. The low bounce wedges have a lower bounce angle to allow a greater downward angle at contact. Keep in mind that the higher the bounce, the less likely that you will dig into the sand or ground. Also, if you hit the ball fat or are unable to get out of the sand bunker when using a mid bounce wedge, then you need to try a high bounce wedge.
