Body Putter Rotation
Problem
You are using a body putter and notice that the putter does not swing along the target line.
Cure
When you use a body putter, your hands will not be placed directly under your shoulders, as they should with a standard or shorter length putter. This will cause the face of the putter to rotate a little through impact.
Therapy
Use a strip of tape, about three feet long to practice swinging over. The clubhead of the body putter will move a little inside of the tape on the way back and will become square at the impact position. Then it will move inside of the tape during the follow through. If this type of stroke bothers you, you could always swing so that the butt of the shaft is against your chin. This will keep your eyes over the ball and allow you to swing straight back and through. To do this, hold the putter near the end of the shaft, so that it is flush with the top part of your hand. Set your chin on the end of the putter and practice putting. Just be careful not to lean on or add any of your body weight on the putter or it will not more smoothly.
