Tip From the Archives
Block out the Obstacles
Problem
Each time you are faced with first tee jitters, water hazards, or other obstacles, you lose confidence and fail to make a smooth or successful drive.
Cure
You need to train your mind to ignore these obstacles and focus on the ball shooting straight down the fairway.
Therapy
Each time you practice using your driver, imagine that you are shooting into a practice net about five yards away. This helps you focus on just the center of the net and block out any distractions around you. It is necessary to build this image in your mind because when you are faced with intimating obstacle on either side of the fairway, you can use this technique to help block them out and hit a straight shot towards the target.
