Between Clubs Drill

Problem

You always use full power and have difficulty making in-between shots.

Cure

Practice making only half and three quarter length shots with all of your clubs.

Therapy

Play the front nine using just the odd clubs in your bag. Then play the back nine with just the even clubs in your bag. Predetermine which wedges will be even or odd based on loft. If you only have one wedge in your bag, do not panic. Simply look at the shortest club in your bag and if it is an odd number then determine that your wedge is an even number. That way you can work on finessing some short shots with a club you are not used to using. With such a large gap in distances with the clubs available, you will soon see that it is better to use less power with a longer club than adding more power to the shorter one. This is because you lose accuracy when you are trying to kill the shot and will end up with more strokes in the long run.
