Behind the Ball

Problem

You want to improve your driving accuracy without making a lot of adjustments to your swing.

Cure

Set up with your driver several inches behind the ball. This will reinforce the image of a proper swinging path and therefore improve contact because it keeps your club on line by retracing the path during your follow through.

Therapy

Set up to the ball as usual. Now take the club straight back along your target line, anywhere from three to ten inches behind the ball. Take a quick look at your target and swing. Try this set up at three inches and work your way up to ten inches. Find the distance that you are most comfortable with and see which gives you the best contact. Once you find the best distance behind ball for you, practice like this every time you use your driver on and off the course. You should be more inclined to follow the proper swinging path and hit through the ball better than before.

Heartily agree. I ground my club 4" to 8"' behind the ball on set up.Then slide the clubhead behind the ball.This ensures "looking" into the back of the ball at address.It ensures that (in the case of the driver particularly)the ball is swept away high and far. With the irons and Fairway woods, the ball position takes care of any alterations,ie,short irons are hit with a descending strike,magic. For consistency, I am sold.
