Tip From the Archives
Beach Ball Golf
Problem
You are having a hard time hitting the ball straight.
Cure
Work on keeping the clubface square longer through the impact zone.
Therapy
Use a much larger ball to see an exaggeration of any hit with the clubhead pointing slightly to the left or right of the target. Use a shorter iron to hit a kickball or a beach ball. Use your usual swing and do not be afraid to make a divot. Focus on trying to make contact just on the inside section of the center of the ball. The ball should fly straight and really high. Notice when it flies to the left or right and try to make appropriate clubface adjustments to hit it straight.
