Baseball Drill

Problem

You want to increase power and distance. You start the downswing with your forward arm, causing slices and topped balls.

Cure

Increase and lead with your body rotation during the downswing. Practice the baseball drill to will improve turning, extension and acceleration through the ball for extra distance.

Therapy

Hold the shaft of your driver near the clubhead so that the clubhead points towards you. Extend your arms and club straight out in front of you. Swing the club back as far as you can while keeping the club parallel to the ground the whole time. Focus on turning your leading shoulder towards the target to help remember to start your forward swing with your body and not with your arms. Swing through using the whole body and listen for a swoosh or whoosh sound. When you swing with your body and arms together, you will hear a whoosh a foot past impact. This sound will be more enhanced when you are accelerating past impact. If you hear it before impact then you know you were swinging with your arms instead of your body. If you do not hear a swoosh, you are decelerating the club into impact. Keep swinging the club until you can consistently hear a swooshing sound after impact.
