Tip From the Archives
Bad Shot Drill
Problem
You are looking a way to improve on the difficult shots and on consistency.
Cure
Hit two balls and play from the worst lie in order to improve hitting from difficult lies.
Therapy
Tee off and hit twice. Play from the more difficult lie. Continue to hit two balls and playing the worst shot throughout the game. You will soon notice that you will focus on trying to make every shot accurate so you do not have to play from unusual locations on the course. To make this drill even harder, play with a friend and have them hit the tee shots for you. They will improve on their driving accuracy too because they are trying hard to give you a bad second shot to play from. Of course, make sure you return the favor by teeing off for them. This will be great because you will trying hard to make a more controlled tee shot or get more creative in order to land their ball in hazard without fear of the repercussions.
Although the concept of this is good. Where in the world are you going to find a course that is is going to allow for the time it would take to chase balls around?
This idea would be best suited to an "after 5:00" or "9 hole" rate. This would give one enough time to hit a couple of shots from each location without the group behind you breathing down your back.
Clearly you will need to play during slow time. I always play twilight rounds alone with two or three balls. It is good practice method.
Also could be great when faced with an extraordinarily slow group ahead of you. I second the idea of playing twilight rounds solo and hitting 2-3 balls. This is my favorite golf.
