Backspinning Putts
Problem
The ball pops off of the face of the putter or you see too much backspin.
Cure
You are likely leaning the shaft of the putter away from the hole, causing the golf ball to rotate backwards. Work on holding the putter more vertical or even leaning the shaft towards the target for a little topspin. Many professional players like to add topspin to their putts for a better roll to the hole by closing the face of the putter. Once you have this improved roll, you will then find it much easier to control your speed.
Therapy
There are two common ways to close the putter. One way players shut the putterhead is to rotate the lead hand underneath the putter during the back stroke. A more simpler way to do it is to lean shaft of the putter towards the hole. The more you lean the shaft, the more topspin you will add to your putt.
A forward press not only adds top spin but makes for a more solid strike.
