Avoid Outside

Problem

You get a lot of pop-ups, pulls, and pull-slices.

Cure

Players tend to see these errors occur when they are swinging outside of the target line during the downswing. By swinging outside of the target line, your trailing shoulder will move out, causing the swing to become too steep. Make sure when you take the downswing that the clubhead moves inside of the target line.

Therapy

Watch how professionals play on television. You should notice how they take the club back either along the target line. When they are at the top of their swing, something triggers their forward swing to move down and inside of the target line. It is usually their legs, arms, or a combination of both that starts this motion. Try to mimic this action while the motion is still fresh in your mind. The key thought during your forward swing should be to allow the clubhead to move inside of the line it traveled during the backswing.
