Tip From the Archives
Around the Green Strategy
Problem
You are having a hard time making shots around the green.
Cure
Avoid using too much loft or play a shot that you are unlikely to make. The higher you go, the riskier the shot. The lower you go the more consistent you are going to be. So putt before you chip. Chip before you pitch.
Therapy
When you are unsure of how much loft you need, remember that you should increase the amount of loft as the length of grass increases or the deeper your lie is in the sand bunker. The more you open the clubface, the more loft you will achieve. Never attempt to help the ball out by scooping it. The steeper you bring the club back and down onto the ball, the higher the ball will fly.
