All Arms

Problem

You feel like your drives are powered too much by your arms.

Cure

Focus on creating a stronger coil during your backswing. Remember the importance of keeping your abs and legs strong. Most of the power in your swing requires you to have these muscles strong to help drive the ball far. Even if you do not have time or the money to workout at the gym, there are plenty of other ways to sneak in a little exercise to help keep your body strong for golf.

Therapy

Try using a stationary bike or a stepping machine if you do not have a lot of stairs or a bike to ride. A great way to get in little bursts of exercise that will keep these muscles lean is to do lunges and squats as you move from room to room in your house. So if you are going into the kitchen to grab a snack, step out sideways as you do squats into the next room. Repeat the same exercise with the other leg leading as you return. If you are lying down on the couch as you watch TV in the evening, do a couple of situps and crunches during the commercials. If you are killing time in the office, cross your arms as you sit at the edge of your chair while sitting up straight. Lean your upper body backwards and allow only your head to make contact with the back of the chair. Be certain to keep your feet flat on the ground. Squeeze your abs in and bring your chest to your knees. This will require abdominal and back strength to do this. Once this seems mundane, try to bring your right shoulder to your left knee as you bend forward. Repeat in the other direction.
