Aim True

Problem

You aim your feet towards the target yet the ball always flies about 30 yards off of your target line.

Cure

Sometimes it feels and looks like you are aiming properly but when you consistently see the ball flying off of your target line, you should double check your aim. Swallow your pride and lay a club down by your feet or ask a friend for help. You will have a better round if you do.

Therapy

Once you feel you are aimed at the target, set a club down on the ground behind your feet. Now stand about six feet behind the ball. Extend your arm out in front of you so that it points down along the target line. Does the club on the ground look like it is pointing about 30 yards away from the target line? Continue to look at the ball and bring both arms up so that they point towards the target. Look down your left arm and hand and find an object it is pointing at; it will look as if it is pointing about 30 yards left of objects that the right arm is pointing at. Think of this perspective as you set up to the ball. It might help you to place a club down on the ground behind the ball along your target line. Then set up to the ball so that your feet are parallel to the club.

I found this type of approach very helpful using the following steps: 1. stand behind the ball and line up to target 2. find a point/feature on the ground about 2-3 feet in front of the ball that is on that line. 3. align feet, then clubface to the line between ball and point on the ground. 4. Swing through along the line the connects to the point on the ground, then towards target. This also helped me to keep my head down and helped avoid coming over the top of the ball and slicing as well.
