Accelerating a Pitch

Problem

You cannot seem to accelerate the club while pitching without over swinging your arms.

Cure

You may need to work on improving your shoulder turn. This is because a key component to accelerating the clubhead during a pitch comes from turning your chest towards the target during the forward swing.

Therapy

Do not over look the importance of a good wrist hinge. This will help you make a good downward blow and provides a surprisingly large amount of acceleration as the clubhead approaches the ball. So, go ahead and cock your wrist fully during the backswing and remember to turn your shoulders so that the center of your chest is pointing at the target during your follow through.

On all pitch shots, use a full wrist cock and a full follow through. Emagine the left arm as the clock hour hand. Say from 7 to 11. The later the time the longer the shot.

Choking down on the club a half inch to an inch will give you a bit more control. Don't try and control the speed of the swing or the direction of the shot, just swing normally only with a shorter back swing and follow through.
