Tip From the Archives

Above the Pin

Problem

The pin is over a hundred yards, downhill from where your ball is setting.

Cure

Tilt your body so that it is perpendicular to the slope of the hill. This will help give you the sensation of having a flat lie and therefore a more level swing. The simplest way to do this is to bend the knee of the higher leg.

Therapy

Select the club that you would normally play from this distance. Choke down on the grip a half inch to help shorten the shot due to being uphill from the pin. Play the ball closer to your back foot than usual. Align your body a little left of the pin and take a normal swing.
