A Hilly Putt
Problem
Your putt starts uphill a little before it drops downhill to the cup. You tend to come up short of the hole on hilly putts.
Cure
So you err on the side of caution in hopes that the ball does not pass the cup but end up with a long, downhill putt. Caution is great but you need to start selecting a better target area.
Therapy
Break this putt into a few sections. What will it take to get to the top of the hill? How much more of a swing length will help the ball over the hill? How much will be too much? Instead of using the hole as your target, find an exact spot on the green that you want the ball to stop rolling at. Chances are, you are planning to make a second putt, so try to gain control over that putt before it happens. Once you get it to this point, gravity will take the ball to the hole. If it stops at this point or rolls past the cup a little, you know you have a more controlled second putt.
