Tip From the Archives
A Balanced Arm Pull
Problem
Hitting fat, hooking, or slicing due to being pulled way from the ball in the backswing and pulled into the ball on the downswing, causing you to pull up. You will hit the ball off the toe or you’ll top it if you pull up too fast. You will hit the ball on the heel of the club, shank it or hit it fat if you do not react fast enough. If the face is square or closed then it will cause you to pull or hook the ball and if the face is open then it will cause you to push or slice the ball.
Cure
Put your weight onto the left side of your body and practice pulling your hands at different speeds.
Therapy
Focus putting your weight onto the left side of your body during your swing for more compression. During your forward swing, try pulling your hands at different speeds and observe the results. Pull your hands faster through the impact zone for maximum spin. For shots that land short and run up to the hole, pull your hands through slower.
